Not happy about hearing that the HVAC system will be dying soon

I wish I would have had more of a heads up about our HVAC system needing to be upgraded soon.

The HVAC professional recently told us we have maybe a year left before we should go for the upgrade. The thing is, the HVAC is only 12 years old and it didn’t really seem to be having trouble. The HVAC professional said the particular HVAC model we have has been known to call it quits around the 13 or 14 year mark, and sometimes sooner than that. So I started saving money and looking into different HVAC systems I might want to go for. One reason why I was disappointed is because I would like to get a quality HVAC that will last longer than 13 years. I want something that will be around for a good 25 years or so. I looked for systems that would easily last that long and I ran across the ductless mini split systems. Those looked really nice and I even learned they have DIY models that I could install. I also looked into other fancy systems like boilers with radiant heating and geothermal heat pumps. The geothermal system looked wonderful and I read they can last up to 50 years when they are properly taken care of. Well, I definitely couldn’t afford a system like that, not with the small amount of savings I have. I’m certain it would take me a few years of saving, but I guess we’ll see how things go with our HVAC system. If it chooses to give up the ghost early, we’ll likely go for a ductless mini split. If not, I might be able to save up enough for a nice geothermal HVAC system.
