Preventing bigger problems by catching the smaller problems early

Last winter, I noticed that my furnace didn’t seem to be heating as efficiently as it should be, and since it was so cold, we kept turning the thermostat up to try to heat up our whole home, however even though it was turned up as high as it could go, my home was still cold even though my furnace was running, and it was making lots of noise, and I called my local HVAC company and described the problem, and they sent out a company the next day, however he diagnosed my furnace and said that it seemed to be working fine, however after inspecting my air ducts he realized what the problem was.

In my forced-air furnace, many of the connections between ducts were beginning to wear down, meaning that the warm air from my furnace was escaping through the ducts and seeping into my attic and between the walls of my house, resulting in an over-working furnace, and yet still a cold house, however this situation was seriously inefficient, and all of the work that my furnace was doing was not being put to good use.

I had never seen a higher heating bill, however luckily, after the repair that the HVAC technician performed on my system, my bill returned to a normal amount the following week. He even made several suggestions to replace my home with energy efficient windows, and new seals around doors and windows, and after making these small changes, I was able to save hundreds on my heating bill each week, who knew that my money was literally flying out of the cracks in my home!
