Stay-at-Home Mom Repairs Her Own HVAC

I was never able to be a stay-at-home mom, but I always wanted to be.

Looking back on my life now, I wish I would have figured out a way to do it, but it just seemed impossible.

My family counted on my income, and even more importantly, my job provided the health insurance policy we all counted on. Also, in a little way, I used to look down on stay-at-home moms, thinking they were so lucky and I always hated hearing them whine about how tough their lives were. Nowadays, when I am old enough to be a grandmother, I look at today’s stay-at-home moms and find many of them are quite capable of doing anything. One of the young mothers I know recently repaired her own air conditioning! We live in the southeast, and it is almost unbearably hot here. Without a/c, it would be impossible to live here in the summer. Anyway, one day she was home and her husband was at the office, and she discovered the air conditioner was turning off and on, but the thermostat was not getting any lower. She started doing research in the form of online videos, and she thought she had it figured out. She thought she would simply have to replace a couple of the a/c parts and also clean the condenser coils, and her a/c would be good as new again. She got online and ordered her a/c parts from Amazon, paid a little extra for same-day shipping, and got out her tool belt. When I was her age, I would have been proud to have called the HVAC company myself, without help from my husband, and here she was donning a tool belt.
