The AC can't handle severe summer temperatures

My wife and I bought a brand new AC unit for our home during the last month of the summer season.

The following year, we both believed that we would not have any problems at all with cooling the house.

After all, our machine was brand-new and ready to be put to the test. We did not anticipate having multiple days in a row when the outdoor temperatures were over 100 degrees. For the first time in my life, I actually endured temperatures that were around 110 degrees. When it’s 110° outside nothing works. Even when the AC is in the best condition of its life, it still can’t cool the house when the temperatures are so hot. We tried to adjust the temperature several times to make it cold in the house, but all we did was freeze up the machine. All of the evaporator coils were covered in ice and the AC machine had to sit for 6 hours before it worked again. The day we froze up the machine, we had to spend multiple hours without any cool air in the house. It was a lot more comfortable when we had 80 degree temperatures, so we definitely didn’t attempt to lower the temperatures the next time we had a heat spell and multiple days in a row with extremely hot temperatures. Instead, we find other ways to stay cool. We have extra thick curtains on all of the windows that face the Sun and we have additional weather stripping on all of the doors. We try to keep as much heat outside as possible and as much cold air in the house as we can.
