My boyfriend is actually a pretty handy guy when it comes to fixing things, but hand him a laptop and he is about useless… The guy can service a lawn mower, install electric or deduce a heating and a/c service with no hassle.
He has an extensive toolkit that he carries with him everywhere and at all times.
He can google or watch videos of a service or repair and then just do it! My family has figured out how handy my boyfriend is. They now have decided to call him all the time for free labor. My sister calls him all the time to help her set up the wiring in her currently-being-remodelled home. My father is always trying to wrangle him in to do plumbing repairs. My brother recently bought an upgraded furnace. Rather than spend money on a heating and a/c service professional to do the oil furnace repair, he had my boyfriend do it. Did he pay my boyfriend for setting up his oil furnace? No, our brother did not even supply him a thank you for all his time. I have decided that enough is enough. Nobody is getting free heating, cooling, electric or plumbing work out of him anymore. If they want him to do any sort of service or replacement, they need to pay him for it. He doesn’t need to be paid what a real heating and a/c contractor gets paid, just a few bucks would be nice. My boyfriend is too nice to tell them no on a job, big or small. I am going to have to be the awful guy towards our family. They are mooching way too much off his skills so I am taking him away.
