First winter was a blur of HVAC heating and deep cold

It’s funny how I considered so many different things prior to accepting a promotion that required a relocation.

I wanted to be sure that this would keep me on the career trajectory I wanted for myself.

Negotiating a raise was also key. And there were a myriad of details that go with all of this. But the one thing I really didn’t give enough thought to was moving to a place where winter was brutal and I would need a gas furnace. All of my winters have been mild and the heat pump was all I needed. So why didn’t I consider the winter weather change that I would have to endure. Thankfully, I found a house that suited my needs just a few weeks after I moved. The house was a 2 bedroom home which was fine since it’s just me. The seller had upgraded the heating and cooling equipment prior to putting the house on the market. So that meant that I at least had a great gas furnace to lean on. What I didn’t realize at the time was that it takes more than just a great HVAC unit to get through the sort of winter that happens around here. I nearly froze that first winter. And the gas furnace was running all the time it seemed. Still, the house wasn’t very cozy and the heating bills were out of control. Now that I’m going into my second winter, I know that I have to prepare the house as well as the HVAC to stay warm during the winter.
