When my wife and I discussed our retirement years, we were always in agreement that we would leave the winters behind and move south.
However, when it came time to actually retire, it wasn’t as easy as we thought to leave our home area.
While we loved the idea of not having to deal with the cost of gas furnace heating and all that cold weather, leaving our home was tough. Still, we stayed committed to what we had decided. We upgraded the HVAC equipment and the kitchen prior to putting the house on the market. It sold for a good price and we were then fully committed to going south to the land of the heat pump. As tough as it was to leave, it was the right move and we’ve been so happy ever since. Early on, my wife and I were outside all year long enjoying golf, tennis and swimming. But as the years passed, we had to slow down a bit due to our health. It’s just part of getting older really. I didn’t like the idea of just sitting inside the air conditioning so much. The thought of being out in the sunshine was much more appealing. So I tried to get a mixture of both with help from the HVAC company. I had a sunroom attached to the back of our home. But I then had the HVAC professionals come out to install some HVAC equipment. The HVAC technician installed a ductless heat pump in the sunroom. Now, we can enjoy the sun, watch the birds and get the heating and cooling comfort we need.
