Housing tract has no roof insulation

The roofing contractor also said that he had added roof insulation to almost all of the houses in this area

When my wife and I moved into this smaller house, we naturally assumed that our heating and air conditioning costs would go down. After all, this house is less than half the square footage of our old house. However, we found this not to be the case at all. Our new house cost significantly more to heat and cool then our old house did. This is despite the fact that our new house has an air conditioner and heater that are only about two years old. We started looking for answers. We had our windows and doors sealed but that did not help the matter much. Then a neighbor of ours told us to look into getting roof insulation. He told me that all of the houses in this neighborhood were built at the same time and that everybody had an insulation issue. If the previous owners hadn’t had roof insulation done, Then we should definitely look into doing it. He had had his roof insulation done about 10 years ago, right after he moved in, and learned of the installation issue. We decided to call up a roofing contractor and have them take a look. They explain that our roof had no insulation, whatsoever. No wonder our heating and cooling have to work so hard. The roofing contractor also said that he had added roof insulation to almost all of the houses in this area. I guess there really was some sort of an oversight when this tract was built. I look forward to saving money on our heating and air conditioning bills now that we have a few feet of roof insulation added to our house.
