My significant other, Mike is a pretty handy guy when it comes to fixing things.
If you hand him a computer he is useless, but the guy can fix lawn care equipment, install electric or estimate a heating and air conditioning repair without any problems.
He has an expansive toolkit that he carries with him at all times. He can google and watch videos of a repair and then just do it. Now, my family has figured out how handy he is. They now have decided to call him for free labor. My stepsister calls him all the time to help her set up the wiring in her new home. My father is always trying to wrangle him in to do plumbing repairs. My brother recently bought a new furnace and rather than pay an HVAC service professional to do the heating system replacement, he had Mike do it! Did he pay Mike for setting up his new furnace? No, my brother did not even give him a thank you for all his time; I have decided that enough is enough, and nobody is getting free heating, cooling, electric or plumbing work out of him anymore. If they want him to do any sort of repair or installation, they need to pay him. He doesn’t need to be paid like a real heating and air conditioning professional contactor, but a few bucks would be appreciated. Mike is too nice to tell them no on a favor, big or small. I am going to have to be the mean guy towards my family. They are mooching far too much off his skills so I am taking him away.
