Last weekend, I let my friend’s dogs out when she was away on a trip.
That’s when I noticed that the HVAC ducts in her home seemed to be blocked up.
I wasn’t looking to find out why, but I just happened to see the air vent cover next to the table in the kitchen was off! When I discovered this, I thought that maybe one of the cats had messed with the air vent cover, so I was going to put it back into place so one of them would not accidentally step into the hole or something. When I went over and diagnosed it more closely, I discovered why the air vent cover was not fitting down officially over the hole like it was supposed to – the HVAC duct was literally packed full of dog hair! It was so cold down there that the air vent cover just couldn’t rest on the vent properly. You would have to shove the air vent cover down to get it to stay on, and even then, it would not fit flush against the floor like it was supposed to. I was shocked to see this, because the rest of my friend’s home is very neat and clean. I had no idea that they were having so much of an issue with pet hair in their HVAC system. I don’t want to say anything to her about it – I don’t want to embarrass her, but my friend should change her air filters more often and switch to a HEPA filter.
