If I would have known that a window A/C unit could have potentially killed me, I probably would have never have gotten one. I just have the single window in my room and that’s the only place I was able to put the window A/C unit when I got it. I really enjoyed the window A/C unit a lot, but I wasn’t too thrilled about blocking my only view to the outside. Well, my wife always enjoyed lighting candles in the house. I told her that could be a fire hazard, but she didn’t care, as she loves her candles so much. One day, our cat ended up knocking over one of the candles and it caught the carpet on fire and the fire spread quickly. My wife was able to get out of the house and she was screaming at me to get out. Unfortunately I was upstairs in my room and the fire was coming up the stairs. There was no way for me to get past the fire because it had gotten so big and out of control in a hurry. My wife called the fire department, but I was up there stuck in the room. I ended up closing the door so that the fire couldn’t come into my room. I realized the only way out would be the window, but the window A/C unit was in the way! I was freaking out trying to find a screwdriver so I could detach the window A/C unit. When the fire was burning down my door and the smoke was coming into my room, I finally just kicked the window A/C unit out of the window and it went flying. The firefighters showed up and were able to catch me when I jumped from the window.
