Bigger isn’t always better

Growing up in the south I had always thought that everything bigger is better. This had always proved to be true during my childhood and teenage years and I thought it would prove to be the same as an adult. As life would prove to me however, this isn’t always the case in the real world. My first realization into this reality was when I moved into my first home after graduating college. The previous tenants had taken the air conditioning unit with them when they moved out, leaving me to replace it along with a few other things around the home. Instead of doing research on which type of air conditioning unit would be right for the size of my home, looking for the most energy efficient option, or finding which units work the best in warm and dry climates I simply went down to the local HVAC store and purchased the biggest one I could fine. Well, it only took around a day for me to start to realize the mistake that I made. My house was most definitely staying cooled off, but it was so cold in my home and the air was being moved around inside at such a rapid pace that it felt like I was up in the northern mountains or something. The guy down at the HVAC store couldn’t help but laugh when I called him the next day and ask if I could replace the unit with a different one, and honestly I can’t blame him. While bigger can be better in some cases, it sure doesn’t hold true in the HVAC field.
