Shared ductwork causes roach infestation

I share the air conditioning and heating vents with all of the rooms in this apartment complex.

The manager sets the thermostat to about 70 degrees year-round and we all get the same temperature and air.

That didn’t bother me until I started noticing roaches coming out of my duct work. I told the manager immediately and he inspected my apartment and didn’t find my apartment to be the source of the bugs. He then inspected the apartments near mine and found the culprit. One of my neighbors keeps their house filthy dirty and it is infested with roaches. Because of the shared ductwork, the bugs just crawl from one apartment to the next and they are beginning to infest the entire building. Now the whole apartment complex has to be fumigated. Once that is taken care of, I really want to know what I can do to keep bugs from getting in from other apartments back into my apartment. I doubt very much if a screen would work over the vent covers but it might be better than nothing. Maybe I could also use some sort of bug trap or bait near the vent openings too. I do like living in this apartment complex, or at least I did like living here. Now I’m not so sure. I might have to find a new apartment that has its own HVAC system and doesn’t share duct work with the adjoining apartments. The thought of nasty roaches crawling around my possessions really grosses me out! I can not have that.
